When your work takes on a life of its own
My book in Taiwan! Plus: Cycle Coach & writing retreat news
Hi friends,
Happy (nearly full moon 🌕) Friday!
This email is coming to you from day 7 of my cycle, always a bit of a wobbly day for me, this transition from the inner winter to the inner spring. I had a great conversation yesterday, interviewing menstrual cycle coach Monique Dickson; we discussed how the patterns from our cycle can show up in the phases of pregnancy as well.
Like me, Mon experiences a shaky transition from menstruation to pre-ovulation, and she has this same phenomenon play out in her trimesters too. We were recording our chat for season two of the Cycle Coach Show podcast, which will be available on your airwaves soon!!
I also want to tell you about something lovely and surprising that happened recently. I was at an event in Melbourne, and the young woman on the door recognised me. As I handed over my phone for her to scan my ticket, she grinned and gently touched my arm.
"Claire Baker!" she said, "Wow, your work changed my life. I took one of your courses years ago. It helped me understand my cycle in a way no one else could explain."
And dear reader, I tell you what, these moments really do bring the warm and fuzzies. It feels good to know your work is helping other people. It reminds me why I’ve dedicated my career to sharing menstrual cycle awareness with women the world over.
I had another moment like this two days ago, when I received an email from The Period Museum in Taipei, Taiwan, where my book is available for public education in their library. Firstly, I was pumped to hear about the world’s only bricks and mortar museum dedicated to menstruation, and secondly, amazed and honoured to know my little blue book is housed among its treasures for locals and visitors to read, learn, and enjoy.
I sometimes forget the impact this book has had, or honestly, I just don't even realise! We write and create something and then it's just out there; who knows who is reading it or where it’s ended up?!
This brings me to TWO pieces of exciting news you might be interested in, whether you’re planning on up-skilling in your career in 2025, or you’re a writer yourself.

A few more fun things:
📺 Watching: Kumaré — this doco is about a man who impersonates an Indian guru and builds a cult-like following… it’s morally murky, but its critique of the wellness and spiritual industries feels important.
📚 Reading: Orbital — lush and lyrical; less page-turner, more tiny vignettes to savour.
🎧 Listening: On our latest road trip, I introduced my partner to Joan and Jericha, who are still the naughtiest agony aunts ever. This show is dark, people! But so funny. Definitely not for little ears.
✍️ Writing: I wrote a personal piece on the wild journey of trying to get pregnant. As a trained fertility teacher with years of supporting others on this journey, it’s been quite something to navigate for myself. Due to the sensitivity of this topic, it is behind a pay-wall for now.
Trying to get pregnant is a trip
I'm on day 15 of my cycle and 4dpo, which stands for ‘days past ovulation’, and is just one of many fertility abbreviations I've acquired since officially beginning the "let's make a baby" journey towards the end of last year. There’s OPK (ovulation predictor kit), BFP (big fat positive), BFN (big fat negative), AF (Aunt Flow), FMU (first morning urine)…
And that my friends, is it from me today.
Sending so much joy for the full moon weekend ahead!
Big love,
Ps. Here’s a pic of my book in The Period Museum in Taipei! 😃
